OCTOBER IS FARLEY MONTH!
Every year hundreds of veterinary clinics across Ontario participate in the Farley Fundraiser. We all play an important role in raising funds for deserving animals and heightening awareness of the foundation's charitable work among pet owners and donors.
Created in January 2002, the Farley Foundation is a registered Ontario charity that assists low-income pet owners, by subsidizing the non-elective veterinary care of their sick/injured pets. The Foundation currently assists:
*Seniors (receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement),
* Disabled individuals (receiving either the Ontario Disability Support Payment or CPP Disability),
* Ontario Works recipients,
* Pets owned by seniors' care facilities (long-term care facilities, supportive housing, retirement homes),
* Women at risk of abuse
The Farley Foundation is a participant in the OVMA Safe Pet Program. A program that assists women who are entering registered women's shelters in Ontario, by providing temporary shelter and veterinary care for their pets.
The Foundation was founded by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association.
Every year during the months of October and November, we help to support the Farley Foundation by spreading awareness and accepting donations on their behalf. All donations will receive a Thank You paw print to display in our front reception area. Any amount is accepted and appreciated!
$5 donation - Put your name on a pawprint to be put up on our board.
$10 donation - Complimentary pedicure for your furry friend.
$15 donation - Receive a reusable, resealable bag and a complimentary pedicure for your furry friend.
NEXT MONTH...........GLENDALE IS CELEBRATING SENIORS!
For the months of November and December, we are once again offering a Senior Wellness Package for our loveable, more seasoned pets. It offers a full exam, nutritional consultation, chest and abdominal x-rays, complete blood work, urinalysis, blood pressure (cats) and ECG (dogs).
Wellness blood work & Urinalysis - Designed to detect early or hidden disease in pets that appear to be healthy. In older pets, it is also used to monitor stable, but ongoing health problems. Please click here for more details.
ECG - An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test that is commonly used to assess the heart. When your pet's heart beats, an electrical impulse is generated within a region of the heart known as the pacemaker. This impulse passes through the heart in a predictable manner that can be traced on an ECG recording. Please click here for more details.
Blood Pressure - Refers to the pressure against the walls of arteries during the time the heart contracts and empties itself of blood as well as during the time the heart relaxes and fills with blood. When the heart contracts, this is known as systole, and the systolic pressure is the maximum pressure against the walls of the arteries. When the heart relaxes, it is known as diastole, and diastolic pressure is the minimum pressure against the walls of the arteries. Please click here for more details.
X-rays - We use x-rays to identify any structural abnormalities of the internal organs. The size and shape of the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and spleen can be assessed.
This wellness package is for our generally healthy senior patients. Please call us at 519-927-9229 or email us at [email protected] for more details and to book your pet in for their senior package. If you have an appointment with your pet, please fill out either the Senior Dog Wellness Form or Senior Cat Wellness Form ahead of the appointment.
